Hey everybody, I’m Faith Marks, Director of Music at FOL and I’m here today to talk with you a little bit about worship and a special upcoming opportunity for you to serve the Lord with your musical gifts!

I love singing.  My mom would tell you that I’ve been singing since before I could speak.  I also love the Lord!  And God has placed a personal calling on my heart, and on my life, to serve him through song.  But it took me quite a while to gain the courage to follow through and serve him with my calling.

When I was nine years old, I had a dream that God came to me and told me it was time to start using my voice for him.  And then a coin fell from the sky.  I woke up, and the dream was so real that I started searching around in my bed… looking for the coin.  I remember because there were little sheep on my sheets and at one point I thought I found it but it was just a sheep.

Six years later, when I was fifteen, I joined a new youth group.  And the worship leader there heard me singing along with everyone else at our weekly meetings, and started asking me to sing with the band at the connected church.  I was terrified and turned him down.  This happened at least ten times until finally I got tired of him bugging me and gave in and said I would do it, just so he would quit bugging me!

I was terrified that first week.  But the more I did it, the more I fell in love with worshipping God in a way I had never had before.  I had finally accepted the calling he had placed on my heart, although unwillingly at first, and that gave me both joy and peace!

That is why I do what I do today.  Because a nineteen year old youth group leader bugged and bugged and bugged me until I finally agreed to sing with his band!

But I can’t do what I do alone.  I need others.  Something that God has reminded me of, time and time again. I have tried, and let me tell you, it’s much better when I have a team working together to serve the Lord.  The church is not a place:  it’s people!  I am not the foundation for worship.  God is!  This is not the Faith Marks show.

Could I sing every solo?  Sure.  Could I sing lead on every song?  I suppose.  But I believe that doing that would be a disservice to this church and to the Lord.  Why?  Because I am not the only person in this church that God has placed a calling to serve him through music.  And there are people in your life that need Jesus that YOU may encounter that I won’t.  I believe that music connects people as sort of a universal language.  There are ways that you can communicate through song that can touch the hearts of others that words alone cannot.  And part of my job as a worship leader is to help others build and use their musical skills so that they can share the love of Jesus though song.

If you’re watching this and God has been tugging at your heart, I have a question for you.  Has God blessed you with the gift of music?  Maybe it’s singing, or playing an instrument.  Maybe others have told you in the past that you should sing with the choir or band.  Maybe you like to jam on an instrument with your friends.  Maybe you always find yourself singing harmony with the radio!  You don’t need to have a dream to have a musical calling. Just a gift and love of music and a love of the Lord.

Chris and I are going to be bugging you, so to speak, about an upcoming opportunity for you to get your feet wet in music ministry here at Fountain of Life!  We are having a special unified Sunday morning worship service on October 29 at 10:30am with both band AND choir playing and singing together in celebration of the Reformation.  Go to the website listed here to sign up to sing with our special event choir!  You can also click the link if you are interested in playing an instrument, and Chris or I will follow up with you.  The web page lists the important rehearsal dates and times.

We need your help!  Invite your friends and neighbors to join the special event choir with you.  This is a way for you to help us connect people to Jesus for eternity… through song!

Hey guys!
Welcome to a new week.
Say I’m sitting here in the church sanctuary. And it’s something that I like to do. I come over here when it’s quiet. No one’s here. And I can just talk with the Lord and pray for you our church family. And I know that you pray for us and I thank you for that. And I just encourage you to continue doing that for our church staff, our families, our congregation. And one of the things that we can pray for this week and give thanks about is that our team from Ecuador came home safely.
I got to do something pretty cool yesterday. I went and got to be part of the welcoming party as our team came home. They came off of the plane and they were both really happy and also exhausted.
But they got to construct 60% of a new house for a Pastor who I believe had lost their home in a hurricane. And so it shouldn’t be too long and they will be able to move into their new home. And our team was a big part of making that happen. Our congregation was a big part of making that happen.
So thank you for that! And thank you for our team coming home safely. And just continue to pray God’s blessings on the rest of the folks there back in Quito, Ecuador.
They did not bring home with them Ms Olivia Plyer. She stayed on. Wants to stay there for a longer extended period of time. And so really praying God’s blessings on her during her stay there.
Say! I’m looking forward to seeing you Sunday. And continue to pray God’s blessings on your week.

Hey guys!
  Welcome to a new week.
Can you tell where I am today?  Hmm.  Let’s see if I can give you a little hint.  Maybe if I come out here.  Hmm.  Can you tell where I am?  Sure!  I’m at Panera Bread.
This is what I call my third office.  My first office is at church.  My second at home and Panera Bread is my third.  I love meeting people here.  Gives me a chance to get out into the community and besides I rack up points towards a free pastry.  Yeah.  Very selfish incentive I realize that, but a good one.  A good one for me.
Hey!  I just want to encourage you when you have an opportunity individually, as a family, maybe a life group to once in a while take your gathering off site.  Get out into the community where you have opportunities to just share the love of Jesus in simple and ordinary ways.
Hey!  Just want to send you an encouragement this week.  Now I’m going to go inside because it’s blazing hot out here!
Hey!  God’s blessings on your week.

Hey Everyone,

I’m standing here in the sanctuary next to the pipe organ, I just love the sound of this instrument. We are blessed in this congregation to have to very distinct worship services the first we call it traditional, the second we call it contemporary probably more of a blended type of service.  Even wondering out loud if we may want to at some point consider a third worship service in part because we have so many people who are gone on Sundays,  that if they had something midweek maybe Monday or Tuesday, i don’t know…  I’m just kind of thinking out loud with you, but if we did I wonder if that would be helpful to a number of people.  Anyways that is another conversation for another day.  I feel blessed that we have two distinctly different worship services, I feel like I get the best of both worlds. So I want to ask you though, if you have the ability to sing and cherish that first service like I do, I’d ask that you to consider joining the choir.  At least just try it out for a little while and see if that works for you.  I’d love to see that choir grow, i know Chris Fair and Faith would also love to see that grow.  The choir we have really does a great job but if we could just build on the strength of that.  I believe there are people in our congregation who have the gifts and ability to sing, and we’d love to have you in the choir, I asked for you to consider that.  As we go through the next few months, I want to really highlight what has God called us to do as we gather to worship here. The first thing that is on my heart is to really see that Choir grow. So pray with me, even now.   Would you please?

Gracious lord we thank you for the gift of song, for the gift of instruments like the organ that are so beautiful.  Lord I just pray that you would tap the right people on the shoulder here at Fountain of Life, and move their hearts to join the choir.  We pray Lord this in Jesus’ name.  Amen

Thank you for praying with me, God’s blessings on your week!

Hey everyone!

I’m standing here in the sanctuary just remembering the gifts and the promises that our Lord gives to us in holy baptism.  You’ll remember from Matthew 28 it says go and make disciples of all nations.  That means someone came along and shared God’s word with me and with you at some time and we came to faith.  Maybe as a young infant or toddler you came to faith.  You were brought by your parents to the waters of holy baptism.  However it may have been.  Wherever that may have happened in your life and mine, we celebrate that every Sunday.  Every Sunday is like a little Easter.  Celebrating the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ and the gift and the blessing of baptism.

Go and make disciples.  How?  By baptizing and teaching.

Of course, this is the summer time.  And we’re all grabbing any kind of summer vacation time we can get.  Looking for opportunities to be with family and friends.  I just want to encourage you while you’re on your travels to take your Bible with you.  Maybe this summer will be a time for you to start some new habits.  Try to read two chapters a day starting with Genesis chapter one.   I would encourage that and when you’re home please join us for worship where we come and we’re restored and renewed by the teaching that we have committed ourselves to and for our families as well.

We remember our baptism.  We remember the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus.  We sing gladly the hymns of praise and thanksgiving.

I just ask God’s blessings upon you this summer and look forward to seeing you when you’re home.

  God’s blessings to you.

Hey guys!  Welcome to a new week!
I am in the nursery here at church.  And I’m here today because I want to introduce a couple of people to you.  Who have become very important to us.
Rick: Eva.  If you would,
Eva: Hey!
Rick:  tell us who you are and how you came here.
Eva:  Hey!  My name is Eva Katsoudas and I work with Monarch.  We are a non-profit agency that assists adults with disabilities find/maintain employment as well as live independently in the community.  We came here through Chris Richardson.  She had this great opportunity for volunteering for Ms Marylene.
Pastor:  Ah!  You just mentioned Ms Marylene.
Eva:  Yes.
Pastor:  So can we say hello to Ms Marylene?
Marylene:  Hey!  How are you?
Pastor:  Awesome!  And what are you doing Marylene?
Marilynn:  I’m cleaning these toys.
Pastor:  You’re cleaning these toys?  Disinfecting the toys in the nursery.  Every week you come up here.  Don’t you?
Marylene: Yes.
Eva:  Every Tuesday.
Pastor:  Every Tuesday.  And we’re so glad you do Marylene.  I understand your going to go help out cleaning one of the Preschool’s rooms?
Eva:  Two of them actually.
Pastor:  Two of them!  Wow!  Thank you Marylene!
Marylene:  You’re welcome.
Pastor to Eva:  So you ended up coming here.  And there’s one other thing that you told me about about Marylene’s family and if you could just share with us just a little bit.
Eva:  Yes. Marylene’s father was an Ophthalmologist.  And as they got older they wanted to set up some sort of non-profit in a way to assist adults with disabilities especially students.  And they started the Noel program through Gardner Webb University.  And it’s allowed students to get assistance through classrooms, through mobility.  Lots of several ways to help them be successful with their school journey.  So it’s a really neat program and its with Gardner Webb University.  Its called the Noel Center.
Pastor:  Noel.  And their last name is Noel.
Eva:  (agreeing)
Pastor:  So they really also did that in honor of Marylene.
Eva:  Yes.
Pastor:  To really honor her life.
Eva: Marylene is actually really active with it.  She goes once a year with her sister that lives here in North Carolina.  They attend, you know, different functions for it.
Pastor:  That’s awesome.
Eva:  She stays active with it.
Pastor:  Hey!  I just want to thank you for being here today.
Eva:  Aw.  You’re welcome.
Pastor:  All right.
Eva:  We love coming.
Pastor:  Hey guys.  Awesome awesome ministry they have here.  And just one of those hidden gems that is sometimes behind the scenes that we don’t always see.  So we wanted to see that today.
Hey!  God’s blessings on your week.

Hi, let’s talk about serving with a lasting purpose, as with every VBS service is what matters, because people matters, to God, to us, and to you!  At Deep Sea Discovery, kids with be challenged and inspired to serve God, by serving others, down the street or across the ocean, as they experience God in their lives, Kids will be changed and they will want to do their part to change others.   That’s what we mean by serving with a lasting purpose. It starts inside and moves out, from daily worship music, mission videos, games and sports, yummy snacks, fun science experiences, service projects and at home service challenges.  Kids will learn that God has a purpose and a plan for each one of them, and He promises that He will be with them every step of the way. They will discover that they can make a difference in the world and that they are never ever alone. That changes lives, not just for a week, or the summer, not even just for a lifetime, it changes lives for good, for God for eternity!  So come join us this summer at Fountain of Life for VBS Deep Sea Discovery!

Week of May 21, 2017

Hey guys!  Welcome to a new week!

I’m sitting out here underneath the picnic shelter at church just enjoying this weather.  It’s beautiful out here! As I’m out here, I’m thinking this is, next Sunday, our annual picnic and I really want to enjoy that with you.  I want to encourage you to come out for that.  It’s immediately following the second service.  I think you’ll enjoy a meal, music, games, probably even some picture taking, and don’t forget the dessert table!  That’s always a favorite. Come on out and let’s enjoy that together!  Pray that it doesn’t rain during that time.  I’m looking forward to it.

Also as we get summer time like this we think about VBS.  And we already have a number of registrations that have come in.  And if you have children that are younger, please bring them.  If you don’t, you might look around at your neighborhood and your circle of friendships that you have.  Or maybe even post to a Mom’s group or neighborhood group or whatever it may be.  But just encourage them to come and get on to our website www.cometothefountain.com. They can register there.  It’s free.  It’s simple.  We know that this is a favorite for our kids.  And we know it’s going to be a great one this year too.
You know Preschool is coming to a close this year.  I just had one of the two last chapel services for this year. It’s kind of a bitter sweet time. You know we’ve enjoyed a year together.  The kids are wonderful!  Wonderful staff. And so it’s kind of a time to say goodbye, but it’s also a time to embrace the summer fun.  And one of the things I encourage the kids to remember is all the things we do make sure that you’re also continuing to learn about Jesus.  And we do that by hearing the stories in God’s word, coming to Sunday school, and just having that time together especially in activities like VBS.

So OK I know that you are good spokespersons for this place and what God is doing here and I just encourage you to do that for this summer as well.

Hey!  Look forward to seeing you this Sunday!  God’s blessings on your week.

Hey guys!  Welcome to a new week.
I wanted to follow up with you just for a moment about my decision to step back at this time from continuing with the program we were calling ‘Our Voices, God’s Word’.  That’s the program where many of us signed up to read for 15 minutes or 30 minutes so that we can go from Genesis to Revelation in a continuous reading over the course of about 3 days.  That was and is an excellent idea.  And we had a number of people who signed up.  And I’m sure that you were looking forward to your time of reading just as I was.  It’s a very cool idea and it’s something that I hope we can reinstate and try our hand at in the future sometime.
Right now we kind of got to a point where we had good response, but not quite enough to make me feel comfortable that we would really meet our goal by this week.  And so I made a judgement call.  And I’m sure an argument could be made for continuing forward with it, but I just thought we were maybe we had sort of bitten off more than we could chew considering the time we were trying to do this.  Because even though I was just loving the idea of going through with this program now, I think with Holy Week and getting into the updated sanctuary and everything that surrounded that we just felt kind of bunched up.  And I made a call on this.  And you might have done it differently and I can perfectly understand that, but I decided to ask that we just step back, take a deep breath, and maybe take another run at it a little bit later, but that was my call.  And I hope that you will be forgiving of me if it didn’t quite square with the way you would have handled that.
You know.  I want to kind of look forward to this Sunday as well.  Just kind of shift gears here.  Really neat day ahead of us on Sunday.  That’s Preschool Sunday and it means that during our second service we’ll have many parents, grandparents, visitors coming to see their little person in action singing songs of praise, reciting their Bible passages, and just kind of letting us in on what they do throughout their week here at this Preschool ministry.  I’m looking forward to that.  I just encourage you to be in prayer for the families that come.  For some of them, it’s their first opportunity to really take a look at what worship is all about.  It might plant a seed for them or maybe it’s going to water the seed or maybe God’s going to give the increase at that time.  But we’re going to pray God’s will be done.  And I encourage you to be with us and thank God for our time together.

 God’s blessings on your week.
