FAITH

By Sarah Speaks

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe.”

John 14:27-29

I have shared before, that much of my childhood and since then has been a battle against fear. From the irrational, monsters, scary stories, etc to the growing typical life fears that come with age, responsibilities, and a family. When I was confirmed and received my confirmation verse, it was perfect for me.   Faith grows when we let go of our fear, abandon the energy that drains us and allows us to cling to our Heavenly Father and allows Him to lead our lives.  But the verses following 27 clearly share his promise, he says something will happen and so it does. And the greatest part of all, His gift of salvation is also promised to us. “But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.” Galatians 3:22.

He Is Everywhere

By: Sarah Speaks

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20

He is Risen Indeed!
By: Sarah Speaks

Remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.  Ephesians 2:12

Making Justice

By: Sarah Speaks

Peter’s swift strike of defense, and as I imagine it, without thought defending his Lord from the obvious capture, was an immediate response.  Are you one to strike immediately, or calculate a more methodical response?  I think we all lean towards one response or the other.  How easy would it be to have Jesus there with us as he was in the garden.  He knew what Peter would do and quickly corrected back to the path God had for Him.  Do you find yourself confessing “Not my will, but Yours Lord”  I often push myself (not always willingly) to seek the direction of God in the face of adversity, seeking to see His will and purpose for my life.  I recently came across a note from my mom, probably from when I was heading off to college, probably not when I appreciate it as much as I do now.  It read “…Be purposeful and available for the Lord…”  In order to do that, we all have to but our swords of our reactions, or knowledge, or plans away and look to the Lord, His directions, plans, and see the power He has in our world.

Distress or Rejoice

By: Sarah Speaks

Psalm 31:7-8

I will rejoice and be glad in your steadfast love,
    because you have seen my affliction;

    you have known the distress of my soul,

and you have not delivered me into the hand of the enemy;

    you have set my feet in a broad place.
